Bio

“Joey” was born in the year of the Ox at Emanuel Hospital in Portland OR. Raised in Lake Oswego outside Portland OR, he played countless hours in the woods and creeks behind their home. In High School, he was recruited for the Army thanks to poor grades and big physique, and maybe weak discipline. Yet instead chose to go to Willamette University on a music scholarship, where he dropped out after a semester to become a UU and political activist.

Rev. Joseph Santos-Lyons is a graduate of the University of Oregon and Harvard Divinity School, ordained in the Unitarian Universalist tradition. A lover of organizing and community development, Joseph has worked to inspire collective action for social justice and educate on issues of leadership, racism, and radical spirituality.  He is an itinerant preacher, spiritual director-in-training, and volunteer chaplain to social justice efforts.

He has worked as the Inner City Outreach Worker for the Coalition for a Livable Future, Director of Campus Ministry and Field Organizing for the Unitarian Universalist Association serving congregations in Canada and America, Executive Director of the Northeast Coalition of Neighborhoods in Portland OR, and is presently Community Development Coordinator for the Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization based in Portland, OR.

Joseph lives with his partner and three children in inner-North Portland, Oregon.
