The UUA has offered a training for congregations searching for a minister to reduce the influence of prejudice on the search process. Paula Cole Jones is facilitating the recruitment of a dozen new trainers to be trained June 10-12 in North Carolina. The program has been around for 17 years (!!!) and is credited with helping congregations examine their biases toward women, people of color, gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender people and people with disabilities.
A letter I was sent made the statement that over the last 10 years congregations which participated in BCT were nearly 50% more likely to call a minister of color, gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender minister or minister with a disability than those congregations that did not. Impressive eh?
