GA in May?

I’ve been reviewing the historical list of UUA General Assemblies.  Did you know:

First one was in 1962, in Washington DC, May 23-28, entitled "The Individual in a Mass Culture".

It wasn’t until 1974 that GA began to happen regularly in late June.

The only years GA didn’t have a theme was in 2002, 2003 and 2004.

That from 1998-2001 the 4 GA’s had the theme of Fulfilling the Promise.

That our upcoming GA in St Louis is entitled "Toward Right Relations".

  1. As a matter of fact, I didn’t know any of that (well, I knew about Fulfilling the Promise, but didn’t know it was a four-year-long theme). Thanks, that was educational

  2. I’ve been trying to figure out WHY it changed weekends. No ones managed to have been able to tell me.

  3. Was it an attempt to be more family friendly (a lot of kids are still in school in May; a lot of students are, too).

  4. i have really no idea, although GA used to be in the low 1000’s, unlike today where we generally exceed 3000 (pretty much since GA 1996 – Youth Focus)
