In November 2005, 40 people of European descent gathered concurrently with people who were attending the annual conference of DRUUMM (Diverse and Revolutionary Unitarian Universalist Multicultural Ministries), the People of Color organization with the UUA. The purpose of this gathering was to form a new organization of White people who were committed to becoming anti-racist allies accountable to DRUUMM and People of Color within the Association. The Steering Committee of this new organization, elected at this conference, is seeking your input in regard to its name. We need a name that is descriptive of who we are and is inviting to White people who do not know about this effort to find out more about us.
We have created a survey asking for your input about the top five names selected by the Steering Committee. This survey, which should take about 5-7 minutes to complete, also asks for any additional suggestions you have for names and your reaction to specific words that should or shouldn’t be in the name.
To sweeten the pot, all survey participants who are interested will be entered into a drawing to win 1 of 10 t-shirts emblazoned with the new name that will be given out at this year’s General Assembly in St. Louis (or mailed if you cannot attend).
Although a good name means nothing if we don’t do the work behind it, a poorly-chosen name can negatively affect our ability to attract new members.
As a result, your input into this effort is vital. We would like a broad representation of people, youth, young adults, and adults, of diverse racial, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds within the Association. So in addition to responding for yourself, please send this survey around to people in your congregation and to other people you know throughout the Association.

Surveys must be completed by no later than April 23, 2006. Thank you for your input.
