Mourning Halim Rashaan (Bill Cross)

Portland Oregon says goodbye to longtime community leader Halim Rashaan who died Friday.  Rashaan was involved in recent high profile actions to address public school inequities, particularly with respect to race and culture.  He was a tireless advocate, and committed member of my home neighborhoods in N/NE Portland.  I never met Halim, but had high respect for his values and his activism.  I’m not sure if he grew up here, but he was a national amateur champion boxer in Portland in the 1960’s, when he claimed the name Bill Cross.
