What Would UU’s Say on Race?

Race has a new face (again).  Immigrant is the new code language for race – listen to the white supremacists on podcast or read in print how they have conveniently replaced Black, Asian, Latino, Indian, Arab…for "Immigrant".  Pat Buchanan has now produced a new book, State of Emergency: The Third World Invasion and Conquest of America, is a runaway bestseller.  It offers another, albeit high profile and thus potentially unifying message, on race that is well, extremely White supremacist.  Alas that the religious progressives struggle so hard to find a voice and grass-roots commitment to anti-racism.  It seems that racism raises more money than anti-racism, is it the message, the vision, the so-called success of the 1960’s?

In
fact, the book reflects racial views that have now veered to the
extreme. White America is changing color, Buchanan argues — "one of
the greatest tragedies in human history." The Mexican government is
involved in a plot to take over the Southwestern United States, and
parts of this country already look like the "Third World." The
segregated South wasn’t all bad "culturally" — blacks and whites were
united, after all. America, despite what its founders wrote, was a
nation formed not on the basis of creed but rather a homogenous ethnic
culture. To put it plainly, State of Emergency is a white nationalist
tract. The thesis is that America must retain a white majority to
survive as a nation. It is rooted in a blood-and-soil nationalism more
blood than soil. The echoes of Nazi ideology are clear and chilling. As
Buchanan helpfully explained to John King, who was interviewing him in
one of his several CNN appearances: "We gotta get into race and ethnic
questions."
State of Emergency unapologetically reflects Buchanan’s insistence on
the centrality of race to the United States and its culture. "This idea
of America as a creedal nation bound together not by ‘blood or birth or
soil’ but by ‘ideals’ that must be taught and learned … is
demonstrably false," Buchanan writes in the book.

  1. :What Would UU’s Say on Race?

Well when I raised the issue of disturbing online allegations that the German Unitarian religious community (i.e. the Deutsche Unitarier Religionsgemeinschaft) had been subverted by Nazi ideologues U*Us effectively said – Shut up. . . When I refused to shut up and sought more information and answers about these allegations U*Us promptly silenced me by banning me from the U*U lists that I was discussing these allegations about Nazi Unit-Aryans as it were. Most ironically this included being banned from the UUA anti-racism list.

I am not sure that that ploy is really new at all. I dare say that it has been used very successfully in the part.

Well there was all but non-existent grass-roots commitment amongst U*Us, anti-racist U*Us or otherwise, to responsibly look into the disturbing allegations of German anti-racist groups that the German Unitarian religious community was a front group for White Supremacists and Nazi ideologues, including convicted war criminals, from the late 1940’s until well into the 1980’s and even the 1990’s.
