My friend Rev. Ken Brown of the United Church of Christ wrote this opinion piece that is being carried by several papers including the Portland Observer, a community newspaper that reports extensively on the Black community. Entitled "Love Hate for Sports", it offers words for the lament I feel as a sports fan and social justice activist. It has some history fans like me can relate to from recent times. The jist is:
But as a person of justice and faith, I hate the injustice in the
sports industry–the smothering of progressive thought, the abuse of
poor people and people of color, the avarice that permeates sports
culture. I can scarcely watch a game or read the sports page without
this bedeviling dichotomy haunting me.
Check it out over at Portland Observer and click on Opinion. Also love the new haircut Ken!
