The Center for Progressive Christianity – TCPC Joins Other Progressives to Protest "Left Behind: Eternal Forces". This new video game is hitting the markets now, championing the ole Crusader Christian mentality. My first reaction was thinking about the post-Tsunami Asia where some Christian groups went in to adopt children from Muslim communities. Some even fundraised specifically from Christians for this purpose.
This video game is of course much more violent, commercial, and insidious. I haven’t played the game yet, but I’m looking at the Left Behind game play and chat boards. One interesting thing, they are explicit that they are targeting Christian markets "We expect our game to be rated “T” and be widely accepted by the mainstream and Christian marketplaces…". If this feels weird and wrong to you, you’re not alone. The Center for Progressive Christianity issued the following press release. Hat tip to UU Philippines lay leader Bob!
That is why The Center for Progressive Christianity is joining with CrossWalk America , The Beatitudes Society, and the Christian Alliance to publicly call for a boycott and recall of Tyndale’s recently released video game Left Behind: Eternal Forces. Left Behind: Eternal Forces sets up a virtual world where all of mankind is divided up into Christians versus everybody else, and then has those two groups vie for dominance by killing each other off.
