UUA and New Sanctuary Movement

I am really excited to see that the UUA has joined the freshly organized New Sanctuary Movement.

May 2006, Immigration and Custom Enforcement has intensified its raids on
immigrants exponentially through Operation Return to Sender. ICE publicly states
this operation only targets "dangerous criminals" but the reality is different.
The raids are indiscriminate, arresting and hauling away criminals and hard
working people alike. Immigrants across this nation are terrorized. Families are
broken. Children have their parents taken away.

Now more than ever the
voice of the religious community needs to be heard calling for the passing of
just comprehensive immigration reform, for an immediate stop to the ICE raids
and offering hospitality and accompaniment to the millions living in

The UUA Office for Congregational Advocacy and Witness and the UUA
Washington Office are working with our congregations involved in The New
Sanctuary Movement and advocating for comprehensive immigration reform.

  1. I am so glad that the UUA is getting involved in this. With the number of immigrants in the Atlanta metro-area, at least one of the UU congregtations here need to get involved. I am going to bring it up at my church.

  2. The age-old pesky U.S.-Mexico border problem has taxed the resources of both countries, led to long lists of injustices, and appears to be heading only for worse troubles in the future. Guess what? The border problem can never be solved. Why? Because the border IS the problem! It’s time for a paradigm change.

Never fear, a satisfying, comprehensive solution is within reach: the Megamerge Dissolution Solution. Simply dissolve the border along with the failed Mexican government, and megamerge the two countries under U.S. law, with mass free 2-way migration eventually equalizing the development and opportunities permanently, with justice and without racism, and without threatening U.S. sovereignty or basic principles.
